A fortification called the Hunger Wall was built on the edge of the Lesser Town under the orders of Charles IV in 1360¬62. Nearly 1200 meters of the wall with castellation and an ambit for sentry had been preserved. The Wall leads from Újezd along Petřín to Strahov. The name Hunger Wall arose during its construction: Charles IV ordered to build it to provide work for the poor during the famine years.
