Behind Vrtba Palace is Vrtba garden dating from 1720. Quite difficult to find, garden is hidden behind an unnoticeable gate. This Italian-style terraced Baroque garden is a quiet oasis in the centre of the city and one of the most beautiful gardens in Prague. It is pretty small place but you can find there everything what you expect from precious Baroque garden – elegant staircases, decorated banisters, terraces, statues, flower beds, and hedges. Statues of gods and stone vases are by famous Matthias Braun. Beautiful paintings in the pavilion are by Václav Vavřinec Reiner. The fact that the garden lies on a slope makes it attractive for yet another reason - from the Vrtba Garden there are magnificent views of Prague Castle and the Little Quarter including view of the St Nicholas Church. Garden is popular romantic place for couples, occasionally there are art exhibitions and theatre performances. Vrtba garden is also listed in UNESCO as a protected monument.

From a historical point of view, Vrtba Garden underwent eight years of restorations in the 1990s and was opened to the public in 1998. The best time to visit is in the spring and summer when the flowers are in bloom.
