Carolinum
Carolinum (Karolinum). Founded by Emperor Charles IV on 7 April 1348, this is the oldest university north of the Alps. The chapel, walls and arcade are still from that date, together with a marvellously carved oriel window, but the courtyard was reconstructed after World War II. Today the Charles University has faculties all over Prague and the Carolinum only houses medical faculty offices, the University Club and is occasionally host to academic ceremonies.

Charles University is Prague’s largest university, the most prestigious in the whole country, and also the oldest in all of Central and Eastern Europe. Founded in 1348, it originally consisted of four faculties.
Karolinum - Charles University

Founded in 1348 by Charles IV, the Karolinum is the oldest university in Central Europe. It acquired the house of the former mint master, Johlin Rothlev of Kutna Hora, in 1383.
