Lidice
In June 1942, following the assassination of the Nazi Governor of Bohemia and Moravia, Reinhard Heydrich, this small village was one of several arbitrarily singled out for reprisal. The men were herded into a farmhouse and shot, the women and children were transported to concentration camps and the entire village was razed to the ground. The site is now a shrine with a museum — a wooden cross and a memorial mark the actual place where the men were shot and buried.

The small municipality of Lidice is situated northwest of Prague (just a 30-minute drive away) and can be easily visited as a half-day trip from Prague. During the Second World War, the village of Lidice suffered enormously as a result of a Nazi search for those responsible for assassinating Reinhard Heydrich.
