Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was a well-known art nouveau master. He started his career in 1887 as a set painter and decorator in Paris and Vienna. Mucha become famous when he designed posters for the French actress, Sarah Bernhardt. Mucha produced a flurry of paintings, posters, advertisements and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewellery, carpets, wallpaper and theatre sets in what was initially called ‘the Mucha style' but became known as art nouveau. The 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris spread the Mucha style internationally. He decorated the Bosnia and Herzegovina Pavilion and collaborated in the Austrian one. His art nouveau style was often imitated.

This small museum features his work of wonderful illustrations, paintings, drawings, lithographs, pastels, sculptures, photographs and personal memorabilia. There is also a small gift shop selling souvenirs and stunning poster reproductions. Museum is located at the Kaunitz Palace in the historical center of Prague.

Examples of Alphones Mucha work can also be seen in the Municipal House and St Vitus Cathedral.
