Pubs, Bars, Czech Beer

pubs_small_4.jpgPubs are usually open from 11.00 until 23.00; bars stay open later, some until the early morning hours. Prague's traditional pubs usually serve cheaper beer and some local spirits while modern bars serve a range of Czech and international beers, wine, spirits and cocktails. Czech pubs are not only places for a nice pint of Pilsner; most of them can fill up your belly with a traditional Czech culinary dish too. Czech brewers like Budvar (Budvarka restaurant) and Staropramen (Potrefená Husa) have their own branded pubs. In terms of the quality of ingredients and service these pubs are an excellent place to begin.

Prague Beer Tanked Up In The City

Beer does not need to be pasteurised because it is fresh enough at a Tankovna.  In the city of Prague, there are normal public houses, and then there are Tankovna Public Houses – i.e. Tank Pubs.  To understand the distinction is to comprehend one of the explanations why, in spite of many  petitions, the Czech Republic continues to be the World's Beer Capital.

Prague Beer Museum

If you wish to try some different Czech brews, head straight to the Prague Beer Museum which has 30 regional Czech beers on tap. You can buy 1.5dl glasses of all 30 beers for 360 CZK - not forgetting that they are free if you drink them all in 90 minutes (though not many visitors do)! Beer cocktails, and a limited range of food and snacks are also available.

Irish Bars and Pubs

This pub is a little slice of Ireland in the heart of Prague.  This traditional Irish pub is a great place to enjoy some quality time with friends in a relaxing atmosphere and enjoy a beer at the same time.  In fact, Molly’s is famous for having some of the best Guinness in the city.  Molly’s also serves traditional Irish food such as fish and chips and sausage and has numerous televisions in order to watch the big game.  There’s even a working fireplace to sit near in the winter and warm up while enjoying a drink.  In addition, there are Irish musicians and dancers who perform a few times each month.

The best Pilsner beer taste at (Golden Tiger) U Zlatého tygra

Karlova Street just in the middle of the centre of Prague is overcrowded with tourists walking between Old Town Square and Charles Bridge. However, few of them depart slightly from the route to a nearby temple of Czech beer drinkers – the beer house u Zlatého tygra. A traditional Czech pub, guests here sit at wooden tables. Just make sure to get here early!

St. Patrick’s Day in Prague

Celebrate St Patrick's Day in a city where, in typical Czech style, they have stretched this festive day into a week of celebrations. On a day when everyone becomes at least a little bit Irish, why not visit one of Prague's many Irish pubs.

U Fleku Beer Hall

Many people like to enjoy architecture of foreign cities and the U Fleku Beer Hall is a great example of a traditional Czech pub as the building dates back to 1499. This provides one great reason to visit the U Fleku Beer Hall but there are so many more positives to this fantastic Prague pub which offers drink, food, entertainment and so much more.

Czech Traditional Pubs

The pubs in Prague, which are omniscient, smoke-filled and down-to-earth, have straightened up a little recently but are still packed with locals and are affordable. The Golden Tiger is quite an old drinking hall with cool beer prices, just 36 CZK for 0.5l for the frothy Pilsner Urquell lager. When Bill Clinton visited the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel showed him this pub - to see a real Czech pub.
