The Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo). Built in 1783 it is Prague's oldest theatre and one of the finest examples of neo-classicism. Renamed the Tyl Theatre after World War II in honour of the 19th-century Czech playwright, Josef Kajetán Tyl, its name reverted to Stavovské divadlo in the 1990s. Mozart's opera, Don Giovanni, had its premiere here on 29 October 1834, after being rejected by the more conservative Viennese theatre managers. Later, there was another premiere of a musical comedy, Fidlovaxka. One of the songs later became the Czech national anthem. In 1984 Miloš Forman shot some scenes of his Oscar-winning film, Amadeus, in this theatre.
