Schönborn Palace

This beautiful palace was built in the 17th century and fell into ruin in the 19th century. Then was repaired in 1917 and converted into apartments. After World War II, it became the American Embassy and remains so today.

Schönborn Palace History

The palace was built on the site of an earlier house that was destroyed during the Thirty Years War (1618 – 1648) when the Lesser Town quarter was occupied by invading Swedish forces.
